I think that an FAQ could really jumpstart useful Singularity discussions. I think that part of the problem to this point is that most Singularity literature takes the form of long and abstract essays or fragmentary mailing-list posts. If new readers can't understand a concept quickly, I suspect that they'll move on quickly. An extensive FAQ could help make SIAI a premiere knowledge resource regarding the Singularity. I would love to know what rout I need to take in life to be on the team desining the first general A.I. I am heading to the Army directly after high school for four years to earn money for college. I was wondering what I could do during that time and after to get me to the point of advanced A.I. programing. I am in AP Calculus and BC Physics but have little programing background but plan to change that when I can afford my own computer, to put Linux on so I can program. AGI folks have been thinking about this stuff for a while - and that literature is already fairly distilled. Without direction, you could end up studying a lot of stuff that isn't really useful for AGI programming.
